The City of Lake Brownwood, sits, of course, along the shores of Lake Brownwood, and is actually an unincorporated community located about 12 miles north of the city of Brownwood, in Brown County in the State of Texas.

In 2002, more than 40 Lake Brownwood area businesses and residents met with the purpose of forming an organization with a goal of working to make the Lake more appealing for residents, as well as for tourists and businesses. The Lake Brownwood Community Development Council was formed, bylaws adopted, officers elected and a board of directors consisting of six members was established. The Lake Brownwood Community Development Council has a mission of cultivating Lake Brownwood as a vacation destination, and to encourage seniors to retire around the lake area by creating a nicer place for the residents.
Since that time, the LBCDC has worked with 'adopt a highway' program, local Sheriff's Department, Lake Brownwood Volunteer Fire Department, Texas 4-H Center and the Lake Brownwood State Park to help enrich the community.
Lake Brownwood Community Development Council is a 501 (c ) 6 non-profit organization.
